Blu-ray Review: Action and Drama Face Off in ‘Den of Thieves’
April 30, 2018Ben MK
FEATURE: Movies don't get much more testosterone-filled than Den of Thieves. On one side, a gang of thieves. On the other, a group of cops who don't exactly play by the book. But when the alpha dogs from each crew (Pablo Schreiber and Gerard Butler) find themselves at odds with one another, who will be the first to surrender? Synopsis: A gritty Los Angeles crime saga which follows the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff's Dept. and the state's most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles. AUDIO & VISUALS: Den of Thieves explodes onto Blu-ray with a rough-and-ready 1080p encode that captures every action-packed moment, as well as the scenes of character drama in between. Image quality is crisp and clean, colors are robust, and contrast levels are spot-on, all of which contribute to a solid visual experience as the story winds its way through the sun-scorched streets of L.A. As for the audio presentation, it's no slouch either. Automatic gunfire punctures the silence with ferocity, and the sounds of screeching tires, roaring engines and wailing police sirens all make their presence strongly felt as part of this effective Dolby TrueHD 5.1 sound mix. EXTRAS: VVS Films' single-disc Blu-ray release includes the following extras:
