‘Game Night’ Blu-ray Review: A Game Cast Help Make this Action-Comedy a Wild Night to Remember
May 22, 2018Ben MK
FEATURE: In Game Night, a murder-mystery party for a group of friends takes an unexpected turn when one of the guests is kidnapped by a gang of real-life criminals, leading to a wild night that none of them will soon forget. Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Game Night is a hilarious, action-packed and twist-filled comedy that follows married couple Max and Annie (Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams) on what ought to be just another weekend game night. But when Max's brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler), runs afoul of the wrong people, it's up to the pair, along with their friends — childhood sweethearts Kevin and Michelle (Lamorne Morris and Kylie Bunbury) and the dim-witted Ryan (Billy Magnussen) and his date Sarah (Sharon Horgan) — to find Brooks and to thwart the dastardly scheme of a ruthless criminal known only as the Bulgarian. AUDIO & VISUALS: Game Night rolls the dice on Blu-ray with a crystal-clear 1080p transfer and a crisp DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound mix, and the results make for a memorable movie night indeed. Whether it's scenes set inside Max and Annie's suburban home or a wild Fabergé egg chase through nighttime city streets, image quality is nicely detailed, with rich, bold colors and attractive contrast levels throughout. As for the sound design, the film is much more than your average dialogue-driven comedy, thanks to composer Cliff Martinez's pulsing electronic score and the sounds of fights, gunshots and car chases, as well as classic rock songs like Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now." EXTRAS: Warner's two-disc Blu-ray combo pack includes a DVD copy of the film and an UltraViolet digital copy, as well as the following Blu-ray extras:
